In 1983, Captain Thomas Sankara seized power in a military coup and launched a revolutionary program inspired by Marxist and pan-African ideas, aiming to break the country's dependence on foreign powers and reshape its political and economic institutions. In 1984, he renamed the country Burkina Faso, replacing the colonial-era name Upper Volta with one meaning "Land of Upright People," symbolizing a new national identity rooted in integrity and self-determination. Although Sankara came to power as a revolutionary soldier, he is most widely remembered for expanding women's rights, promoting mass vaccination and other public-health campaigns, encouraging environmental conservation, and pursuing policies of economic self-reliance. His rule ended abruptly when he was assassinated during a 1987 coup led by his former ally Blaise Compaoré, cementing his reputation as a revolutionary whose enduring legacy rests less on his seizure of power than on the ambitious social reforms he championed.

• Please note that the prints on the t-shirt may have variations in texture and appearance. This is due to a natural byproduct of the printing process called glycol, a nearly-clear glossy substance that may give the print a shinier appearance where present. Glycol is water-soluble/miscible, so washing the garment will easily remove it.
• Due to the heat press used in the printing process, there may be some shading around the print area on darker-colored t-shirts. We recommend washing the garment to help mitigate any temporary color changes caused by the heat press.
